The Truth About Truth & Reconciliation
Addressing the ABCs of Reconciliation: Autonomy, Being, and Culture
Autonomy—it’s often defined as the freedom to choose how we live our lives. But for Indigenous peoples, that freedom was stolen. Colonization stripped away decision-making power, imposed systemic control, and fractured identities. In this workshop, we explore how the loss of autonomy contributed to generational trauma—and how reclaiming it is key to healing.
Being—what does it mean to be Indigenous in a post-colonial world? We’ll examine the erasure of identity through forced assimilation, historical injustices, broken treaties, and systemic inequality. We will also unpack the layers of privilege that continue to impact reconciliation efforts.
Culture—Indigenous cultures are not a monolith. This session highlights the rich diversity of Indigenous Nations across regions, sharing stories, histories, and resilience. We’ll trace the roots of intergenerational trauma, examine the enduring impact of residential schools, and learn how culture is a source of strength, not just survival.
This is more than a workshop—it’s an invitation to understand, unlearn, and take action. Join us to learn the truths often left untold, and how we move forward—together—in reconciliation.
“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”
